Surrender to Jesus
v24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me”.
This verse is one of those that are very familiar to Christians. This is what we should do to be a disciple of Jesus. But I am always struck by the enormity and yet the simplicity of the challenge. Denying ourselves means laying down our own agenda, our plans, our finances, our family, our thoughts, our desires – all of it. We have to surrender them to Jesus. This sounds easy, but it is a daily struggle to allow Jesus’ priorities to win.
Take some time now with Jesus to surrender things to him. Some things will be easier than others, but Jesus wants it all. He wants his priorities for your life because his priorities are what are ultimately best for us and will lead us to live life to the full.
Jesus, I surrender to you and to your will for my life. Help me to remember that you are good and that the things you want for me are the best. Amen
