v44The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
I wonder if there is something in your life that you feel you would like to get rid of everything else you have merely to have that one thing? It seems like a crazy thing to want to possess something that badly. Maybe if we think about it in terms of relationships then we can identify with it a little more. The thought of giving everything for our spouse or our family makes a little more sense. That’s what we can think about in terms of this parable. The man finds the most precious relationship that there is and he gives up everything to make sure that it is in his possession.
This ‘field’ is on offer to us to. We are invited to come and find the treasure of being in relationship with Jesus. But there is a ‘cost’ to us. Jesus asks that we surrender all that we are in order to gain life with him.
Lord God, thank you that being part of your kingdom is the most precious thing. Thank you for the relationship that I have with you through Jesus. Help me to be willing to daily surrender what I have to live as part of your kingdom.
