‘Because you are worth it…..’
vv.29-31 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
There are so many thoughts in this passage, from the almost casual way Jesus sends out the disciples to raise the dead, to the warning about persecution and division. But here he gives them and us this amazing reassurance as to our value, reassurance that the creator God is interested in us, interested in every detail.
It is perhaps a human tendency that we only ask God for the ‘big’ things, almost as though we don’t want to disturb him with trivia, even though our ‘trivia’ can extend to some significant items! ‘Surely He won’t be interested in that’. BUT our God values us. He loves us and cares about us. We must never think of ourselves as worthless, we are worth so much that He sent his Son to die on a cross for us, that is the value that we have been given.
Lord, thank you for your love, thank you that you value me and that you have a plan for me, a perfect plan. Help me to trust you at all times and to never be afraid because you are with me. Amen.
