This year marks the 100th anniversary of the battle of the Somme. From the Chorleywood area alone there were no less than 11 fatalities in that one tragic battle which has come to represent the horror and heroism of war.
The display of poppies on the grass outside church, with barbed wire entwined and the charcoal-etched pictures under the church tower, both by the pupils of Christ Church School, show that the sacrifices of a previous generation are not forgotten today.
At our services this Remembrance Sunday, we will also worship the living God and seek his comfort and hope in these uncertain times.
The flowers in church this Sunday are beautiful, combining poppies of Remembrance with new flowers of today. They speak of gratitude, sacrifice, new life, beauty and peace. Our community and our world need the peace of Christ more than ever before…
May the Lord of peace Himself give you His peace at all times and in every situation.
(2 Thess. 3 v16)
Yours in Christ
