What is she doing with that perfume?
v.7 A woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.
The woman at Bethany was dismissed by the disciples and rejected. Why did she bother pouring expensive perfume all over Jesus when the money raised could have been given to the poor? But Jesus considered what she did to be beautiful. She sacrificed expensive perfume as an act of worship – giving up a huge amount of worldly wealth in praise of her Saviour.
What are you willing to sacrifice in order to give God all your worship? Think about what the woman at Bethany sacrificed, and then think about what you could offer as a sacrifice of praise.
Father, show me today what I can offer as a sacrifice of praise. Like the woman at Bethany, may I not listen to the cries of the world but give you everything through worship. Amen.
