Abundant love overflowing
v.10 … and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.
Throughout their history the Israelites had repeatedly disobeyed God then returned to him but the message Malachi gives reassures them that God will never change. God asks for only a portion from them as a commitment – the tithe is 10% – and promises abundant blessings and protection (v11).
God’s promise foretold by Malachi has been fulfilled in the sacrifice of Jesus. The floodgates of heaven have been opened. And what is our response? We have just celebrated our harvest thanksgiving, donated goods to a local charity and pledged financial support to our church as signs of our thankfulness to God. But let’s not think this is response enough to the gift of his one and only Son!
Lord, thank you for your overwhelming love shown through the sacrifice of your Son. I can’t even begin to show how thankful I am. I give my life to you, a living sacrifice. Use me as you will. Amen
