The responsibilities of leadership
v.7 “For the lips of a Priest ought to preserve knowledge, and from his mouth men should seek instruction…”
When the leaders of Israel, the Priests, did not confront the people’s wrong behaviour and indeed “caused many to stumble” (v.7), they were utterly failing in their calling and were arguably more culpable than the people.
Anyone in leadership must constantly be on guard about their behaviour, words and attitudes. Throughout history we have seen the consequences of wrong leadership. But those of us who are not “leaders” cannot sit back and relax! Peter addresses all Christians with the words: “… you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood…” (1 Peter 2:9). We are all “leaders” for someone.
Help me, Lord, to understand the influence for good and bad that I can have, and show me how I can lead others closer to you. Amen
