vV 4-7 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
What a challenge to live out a life marked by this true ‘love’. In this passage Paul appears to be speaking more of our love as members of the body of Christ rather than as members of individual families, making this an even greater challenge.
It is reassuring to remember when faced with the enormity of always being patient and keeping no record of wrongs, that God is the one who embodies this love. This is the love that God has for each one of us. So let us not become downhearted by our failings but instead continue to try to reflect God’s love in our lives a little more each day.
Dear God, thank you that your love for me never fails. I am sorry that I am not as loving as I should be. Please give me strength each day to be more like you, loving those around me with this true love. Amen.
