Doing the right things for the right reasons
v31 …..whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God
Paul uses examples from history to warn the Corinthians of the consequences of inappropriate behaviour. He goes on to specify what should not be done, and then to help believers – who have freedom of choice – to gauge whether the things they can do are acceptable to our Lord. Again, he recites specific examples but v.31 is the catch-all bottom line.
We are blessed with skills and resources and can use these in whatever way we choose. But as Christians, we know that we should not use the gifts bestowed on us for personal gratification, but for the benefit of others and of the communities in which we live and work. By so doing, we are serving our Lord and growing His kingdom.
Dear loving Father, protect me from the temptations that draw me to wasteful or sinful pursuits, and help me to emulate the servant leadership of Jesus. If I am unsure when making choices, remind me to consider who my choice will benefit most, and whether I believe that it would be pleasing to You. Amen.
