Humility and the Holy Spirit’s wisdom
v4 .so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.
In the first five verses, Paul emphasises his calling and his humility and weaknesses in that calling, focusing on the message of Christ crucified and God’s power as revealed through his Holy Spirit. Paul goes on to remind the believers of the work of the Holy Spirit in them – the ability to search, to discern, to have wisdom – in short to live and move with the mind of Christ.
We cannot begin to imagine what our Father God has in store for us either in this world or in the heavenly home he has prepared for us. However, we have his Holy Spirit to comfort, correct and guide us. For our part, we need to keep the doors of our hearts and minds ever open to the Holy Spirit’s power and work.
Father God, give me the grace to be humble and weak, so that the power of your Holy Spirit can work in me enabling me to grow more Christ-like in every aspect of my life and actions each day.
