Straight talking with Christian love

v 9 God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.

Paul’s opens his letter with loving greetings in Christ, and assurance and thanksgiving.   Then he doesn’t hesitate in immediately addressing the division in the church.   In verses 10-17 he highlights the problems and then from verse 18 onwards he reminds the believers that they are to be considerate of one another; pride and a know-it-all attitude have no place against all that Christ had done for them.   They are to have Christ-like minds and ways.

How much does Corinth remind us of the pace, corruptions and temptations of the world in which we live today?   Day by day we need love and reassurance, but also timely reminders and sound teaching directly from our Father God, through the Bible, which is God-breathed, through unity in our Christian communities and through trustworthy Christians, whose friendship and fellowship we should seek.

Loving Father, fill me with your Holy Spirit and clothe me with your armour* each day, that in your faithfulness to me I can live in the world, but not be of the world and its temptations.

*Ephesians 6, verse 10-18
