V.1 & v.6 If some is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently… Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.
Paul calls for a level of community and mutual responsibility among the Galatians that is both challenging and encouraging. They must look out for each other, keeping them on ‘the straight and narrow’ of God’s way and also encouraging them to grow in the knowledge and understanding of God’s word.
Telling each other when we’re straying from what’s right in God’s eyes can be such a tricky thing – to hear and to say! But it is only in doing this gently (and prayerfully!) and in encouraging each other through sharing our insights into God’s love that we ’fulfil the law of Christ’ (v.2). In these ways we can support and encourage each other to deeper and mature faith.
Lord give me the grace and wisdom to encourage others by helping them walk with you closer and deeper. Amen.
