We’re all in this together
v.24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds.
There is much here about the futility of unending sacrifices and the fact that Jesus has, by his sacrifice, cut through the legalism of the Old Testament which could never truly deal with sin (v.11). That is no longer our problem. What is required of us is the perseverance to carry through into our lives the consequences of Jesus’ sacrifice, and we need help to do that.
Faith in Jesus presupposes from each of us a commitment to His people. We can demonstrate this in many ways, but encouraging each other is one of the most significant. When did we last put ourselves out to help or encourage a fellow Christian? Look at the words of the reading. Do we “spur one another on”?
Lord, I need to be more encouraging and grateful towards other people. Please help me to take the time to express true thanks and encouragement to the Christians who do so much for me. Amen
