Our internal moral compass
v.11b I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts.
The writer points out that no longer does our relationship with God have to be second-hand. It is not principally a matter of being instructed how to behave, but rather having inside us the Holy Spirit who is that moral compass who directs us in the way we should go.
We may have a compass inside us, but, as when we are driving following the instructions of a satnav, we still have the choice to obey its voice or not. We have the Spirit of Jesus within us, but we still have the choice whether or not to go the right way or the wrong way. Sadly, too often we think that our way is better.
Lord, I thank you that I have your Holy Spirit in me. Please forgive me for the times when I ignore His leading and don’t allow Him to guide me to live as I ought. Amen
