Jesus Our Great High Priest

verse 7 “During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death and he was heard because of his reverent submission.”

Jesus, as the Son of God, could do anything in His name. Yet for us, on our behalf, he offered up fervent cries and prayers and was answered because of his “reverent submission.” What does this teach us? If we could pray with such feeling, intensity and passion but coupled with such humility, our prayer life would be so much more fruitful.

The Son of God honoured his Father throughout all his supplications on our behalf. Yet we, who do not know the Father with anything like the love and knowledge of his Son, tend to rush our prayers and hope that our will, rather than His glorious will, be done. Who are we kidding?

Heavenly Father, please help me to be more like your Son when I pray. To honour you and give praise and thanks and to humbly ask that in all cases Your Will be done. Amen.
