God’s final word – his son
vv.1-3 “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things….The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful Word.”
I felt compelled to quote the beginning of this epistle, though in a slightly abbreviated form. It establishes Jesus’ glorious credentials. Previously God’s word had been spoken to us through the prophets but now we are spoken to by his Son, the heir of “all things” and sustaining “all things” by his powerful Word. It’s a definite WOW factor.
All Christians are followers of Jesus, so we know he is the Son of God. But sometimes we take this somewhat for granted, rather than marvelling at this wonderful miracle, this precious, indescribable gift, that Jesus, the Son of the living God came down to earth, just for us, to speak his Word and show us the Way. Apologies, but another WOW.
Heavenly Father, thank you for your everlasting love for me. It is so high, so wide and so deep that whatever I do, as long as I believe in your Son, he is taking all my faults and sins in order that I might be able to live and walk with you “in the cool of the evening”. Help me become a true follower of Jesus. Amen.
