2 THESSALONIANS 2stand firm

Stand firm

v.15 Stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you.

Paul urges the Thessalonians not to be swayed by the misleading teachings of others – for example, those who said that Jesus had already returned. It is by faith in the truth of the Gospel that people receive salvation. We should depend on the Holy Spirit, who is given by God, to enable us to grow into the likeness of Christ.

We cannot ‘stand firm’ and remain strong in our faith without God’s help and the resources of his Spirit on whom we can always depend. When we are wrestling with questions of faith we should look to the scriptures for guidance, asking God, by his Spirit, to show us his truth and how we should respond to it.

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage our hearts and strengthen us in every good deed and word. (From verses 16 and 17).
