Live in the Light
v.6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.
Martin Luther said, ‘I live as though Jesus Christ had been crucified yesterday, had risen this morning and was coming again tomorrow’. Paul’s reminder and encouragement to the church in Thessalonica is applicable to us today – that we, as Christians, should live our lives in the truth and reality of the resurrection. We live in the hope and knowledge that Christ – in whom we have the certainty of salvation – will come again in glory. Until that day comes we should live out our lives in a way that demonstrates this great expectation and certainty!
The Message translation puts it this way: “Since we’re creatures of Day, let’s act like it. Walk out into the daylight sober, dressed up in faith, love, and the hope of salvation.” Why not spend a moment thinking about how you can dress yourself in faith, love, and the hope of salvation today. What does this look like for you?
Lord God, thank you for the assurance I have that in you I find salvation. I pray today that you would equip me to walk out in a way that demonstrates my faith in you, the love that you have for me and for others, and the promise of hope for the future. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
