One of the ways in which I can worship our heavenly Father is through his creation. I am constantly in awe of it – its colours, intricacies, patterns, shapes, sounds, smells, variations and unity. Walking beside the sea, or through a woodland, I am struck by how I am walking through his masterpiece of creation. I am reminded how I am part of it and how clearly he often speaks through it.

I got lost whilst driving recently and ended up stumbling upon a local woodland. I decided to park and have a look around, and I was greeted by an almost unearthly blue haze covering the woodland floor – bluebells!!!

The bell-like shape of the flowers is beautifully intricate, but a single bluebell plant is delicate. It’s rare that you would see one alone, and if you did it would struggle staying strong. Bluebells grow together and when they flower they then create an incredible carpet of bright blue which takes your breath away and stops you in your tracks. Their rich vibrant unmissable colour and their sweet perfume-filled air capture us by its beauty and completely changes the scenery they are in.

I want to suggest the idea that we might be a little bit like these bluebells (stay with me!).  We are each individually, beautifully intricate, yet delicate in character and in faith. But when we are surrounded by others who share our faith, when we come together united something awesome happens.

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20

The love and encouragement we share with one another, stemmed from the love of our Father, overflows, and God is revealed to those around. When we are united in our love and united in our prayer we will see incredible things which will take our breath away. Thankfully, unlike the bluebells that disappear after a short season, we have God who promises to sustain us and uphold us forever.

With our new focus of community, and the week of prayer we have taken part in, ‘Thy Kingdom Come’, let’s be a church, locally, nationally and globally so that we can be a light to the world and to be like a blanket of bluebells on a woodland floor. Let Jesus’ awesome love, grace, and forgiveness cover those around us, and let’s live a life full of colour from our creator.

“No one has even seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.” 1 John 4:12
