World Cup on the Big Screen

Over 100 people packed The Junction, Christ Church’s meeting centre, to watch the ill-fated England-Uruguay World Cup match.

The event was made possible by the installation of a big screen and a live television feed.

‘There was a great atmosphere,’ said Churchwarden Geoff Marshall-Taylor. ‘The church provided burgers and people brought their own drinks. A lot of whole families came and had a good time, apart that is from the result.’

Christ Church is hoping to use their new facility to offer cream teas during some key Wimbledon tennis matches.

Last November on Remembrance Sunday they took the live feed from the Cenotaph and integrated it into the Sunday morning service, allowing the congregation to observe the two minutes’ silence whilst watching the Whitehall ceremony. ‘It was very moving to include it in our service,’ commented Rev David Hall, Vicar of Christ Church, ‘and to join with people throughout the nation and the world in this act of remembrance.’
