Women’s Breakfast with Caroline Smith
Saturday 18 March, 8.30am
The hopes, dreams, disappointments and even the hilarious spelling mistakes of the often desperate people Caroline Smith sees in her job as an immigration and asylum case worker form the backbone of her latest collection of poems, published in 2016 as ‘The Immigration Handbook.’
Mother of four grown-up children, who all attended Christ Church School, Caroline (aka Mrs Gardiner) will read from her poetry and invite us to look at the human stories behind the statistics. Her daughter Beth will also speak briefly about her work for Safe Passage, the charity that helps unaccompanied minors from refugee camps in Northern France find their family in the UK – a charity which is now threatened with closure.
Caroline’s talk will follow a delicious breakfast, which is free, but please help the catering team by booking your place in advance by ringing the church office (01923 282149) or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
