Frishta Children’s Village with Tess & Julie A hair-raising taxi ride and attending a wedding are just two of the many anecdotes Tess Blumson and Julie Dickens will share in an uplifting and inspiring talk about their visit last year to a children’s home in Northern India.
Known as Frishta (which means ‘angel’), this remarkable project defied years of local bureaucracy when it opened its doors to some 40 orphaned and disadvantaged young people, aged between 5 and 20, in 2008. The children, many of whom were previously sleeping rough in railway stations, are housed in ‘family groups’, with a local Christian couple acting as parents. At Frishta, they all go to school and positively flourish once they realise they are loved by their house parents and by God.
Frishta has plans to expand and last year, Tess and Julie were part of a team of seven from Christ Church who travelled to India on a working-trip to help decorate the complex. They ended up dong so much more: singing, dancing, gardening, teaching and getting to know the ‘parents’ and children.
Do join other women over a delicious breakfast to hear about Tess and Julie’s unforgettable experience, on Saturday 21 January. Breakfast is served from 8.30am and is free, but to help our caterers, please let the church know by Thursday 19 January if you are coming.
