I know your deeds
v.15 I know your deeds, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish you were one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot or cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
The church at Laodicea had got complacent. They neither really lived out their Christian faith nor denounced it. In short, they had begun not really to care. But God cared, and he is affronted by their casual indifference to his call to obedience.
We all hate food which is in that horrible grey area between warm and stone cold that is ‘lukewarm’. If we’re eating out, it is a sign of an understaffed or badly-managed restaurant. Let us not disappoint our Lord Jesus Christ by being lukewarm in our faith. He was full-on in his commitment to saving us. He expects us to be whole-hearted disciples of him. We will stand before him one day…
Dear loving Lord, thank you that you were fully committed to saving me. Please help me to be fully committed to following you, in my professional life, personal relationships, finances and church family life. Amen.
