v.10: “This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints ….”
The beastly pictures in this chapter are deliberately described in terms of brute strength, ugliness and threatening behaviour. Comparison with other scriptures, notably in Daniel 7: 2 -7, shows the power of Satan, but Christians rejoice that he is an ultimately defeated foe.
Jesus warned His disciples (Matt 24:24- 25) that in the end times there would be distress unequalled in the world’s history and that people would be deceived by signs and miracles carried out by Satan’s emissaries. If this prospect is disturbing, seek out people who can come alongside, encourage you and stand with you in hard times.
Heavenly Father, thank you that I can be part of a church family where I can both find encouragement and be an encouragement. In times of trouble and hard times, help me to look to You and others to strengthen my faith, but also to be a strength to others when they are in need. Amen.
