A letter to prospective interns from Nell Tucker

Go away! No I don’t mean that, I just don’t want to leave! Christ Church is utterly awesome – I love this place so much I left and came back – twice! (Ok so the first time I worked for a nearby nellchurch, but Christ Church was still the place that supported and loved me through that year) Coming here was something I am certain was guided by God both times. The first time I was able to grow and learn that I am good at things (a revelation for me at this time) such as building relationships with teenagers (I used to be a bit scared of them), having initiative, going the extra mile and inspiring others. I am also certain that this internship encouraged and helped teach me these things.

Second time around I have simply felt incredibly blessed to be welcomed back to a place that feels like home. I know I am known and loved here, something incredibly brought home to me as the invitation to return included two days a week to spend at a local school to prepare me for teacher training in September. This year I have been able to notice an increase in my confidence, my ability to lead and my peace with who I am. I have also been reminded of the importance of community, there are some incredible ones here: My fellow interns, the youth and children’s team, the staff team, 1830 and the Church as a whole to name but a few.

Despite some long working, evenings, and weekends, I can honestly say I have never had a job I have enjoyed more. In my years here I have slept outside in a box, been given a giant fluffy teddy bear by the youth, learnt how to make fake blood and baked innumerable cakes, cookies and brownies.

If you hadn’t noticed – I love this place, so so much! It can be hard and tiring work and though the youth may not always believe it we often work seriously hard. Yet it is totally worth it in so many ways!

If you want to apply for our internship, you’ve got JUST enough time. Deadline for 2015-2016 applications is Tuesday 14th April 2015. Click here for more info: http://www.cccw.org.uk/building-a-team/
